The Salvation Army's Western Territory, which covers the 13 Western US states and Micronesia, was honored by the prestigious technology industry publication InformationWeek.

The magazine's annual rankings of the 500 most innovative users of business technology - called the InformationWeek 500 - included The Salvation Army for the seventh year in a row!

Clarence White, Chief Information Officer and Information Technology Secretary for the Western Territory, is honored and humbled by the recognition.

White and Director of Software Development, Tim Schaal

White said, "Every year we expect that this will be the last, but to have been listed in the 500 every year since 2005 is a tremendous accomplishment and an endorsement of our commitment to excellence. No other religious or nonprofit organization has even come close to our consistency in the field of Information Technology as measured by the InformationWeek 500."

This year, one of the chief technology accomplishments that garnered the magazine's notice was a project proposed by our Territorial Commander here in the Western US, Commissioner Jim Knaggs.

The project, called PeopleCount, will use social media to allow Commissioner Knaggs insight into the weekly happenings at our worship and service centers around the territory.

It will also facilitate weekly feedback including a celebratory multimedia message to the territory from the Commissioner.

The project is expected to be fully launched by the end of this year.
