2015 Tax Law Change:
What You Need To Know

We wanted to provide you with an important tax law update. This change may affect you if you are considering using your IRA to fund your 2015 year-end giving to The Salvation Army.

On December 18, the president signed into law legislation that extends special giving options related to IRA rollovers. This act extends the ability for you to make a charitable gift directly from your IRA. To make such gifts, it is important to not withdraw funds prior to a gift, but have the gift amount distributed directly from an IRA. There are two important details you need to know to prepare:

  1. If you are 70 ½ or older, you can make tax-free distributions from your IRA of up to $100,000 to qualified charities, including The Salvation Army.
  2. You only have until December 31, 2015, to make this gift for the 2015 tax year. That means you have just a few days left in the year to make a gift from your IRA to The Salvation Army to realize significant tax benefits for 2015.

If you are considering making a 2015 gift to The Salvation Army using funds from your IRA, please contact us at 1-877-659-9725 so we can provide your fund administrators with the forms they need in order to make your request.

Thank you for your past generosity and future consideration. Your gifts form the foundation of everything we do.

There are just a few days left in 2015 to take advantage of the tax benefits associated with making a gift from your IRA. Please call us at 1-800-298-6532, or email plannedgiving@usw.salvationarmy.org for more information. Thank you!
